CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 19) is known for being responsible and disciplined — a paragon of self-control. That’s why you’re all about our delicious but healthful California Chicken Bowl. SCORPIO (October 23 – November 21) is marked by passion and power. It only makes sense that you’d heat things up with the Scorpion burger, premium beef topped with pepper jack cheese, Trinidad Moruga scorpion sauce, grilled jalapeños, lettuce and tomato.

SAGITTARIUS (November 22 – December 21) is represented by the archer. You’re always on a quest for new adventure, so you don’t shy away from our Voo Doo Mushroom burger. It gets its kick from absinthe-sautéed mushrooms, Swiss cheese and Tabasco mayo.

Now is the perfect time to live large for less — and to celebrate everything we love about margaritas. We love the deliciously complex flavor profile: the salt on the rim, the sweetness of the agave, the bitterness of the tequila and the sourness of the lime juice.

5 Things We’re Looking Forward to This Summer

And just like that, it’s Summer. It’s time to slow down and take it all in. To enjoy life with family and friends. To live large while the livin’s easy.

How do we love summer? Let us count the ways.

1. School’s out.

For some lucky kids, no school means staying up late and sleeping in. For everyone, it means no homework, no tests and way less stress. Breathe in and say it with us now: “Ahhhhh.” 

2. Vacation.

Warm sun, cool water and weird tan lines? Yes, please. Whether you’re headed to the beach or just spending a few days laying out by the pool, there’s nothing better than taking a little time off to reboot.

3. Seasonal sips.

There’s something about summer drinks that are just extra-fun, and at Grub, we’ve got more than our fair share (#shamelessplug). There’s the Five Dollar Rita (Sauza Silver Tequila, orange liqueur, orange and fresh lime juice), the Patron Mango Rita (Patron Silver Tequila, Patron Citronage Mango and fresh lime juice), our Back Porch Punch (Bacardi rum and fresh juices), our seasonal housemade sangria and the Peach Martini (Deep Eddy Peach vodka, pineapple and lime juice with a hint of jalapeno.)

And did we mention that Tequilatopia is happening July 15th – August 15th? And that means one wonderfully long month of $5 ritas! And by ‟$5 ritas” we mean all Grub Ritas. Refreshing, right?

4. Fireworks.

Who doesn’t love things that go boom? Come July 4, we’re all about those amazing pyrotechnic displays. The sights, the sounds — even the smells. We seriously can’t get enough.

5. Cooking with fire.

It’s prime backyard BBQ season. Grab some burgers and buns and get the party started. Bonus points for s’mores in the fire pit. It takes a certain je ne sais quoi — maybe he’s born with it? — to pull off the denim-shorts-and-white-sneakers combo, and for that we salute the paragon of sartorial splendor we call Pops.

And let’s not forget Dad’s great sense of humor. Those puns might seem corny at first blush, but you know you find yourself chuckling — and repeating them — later.

Then there are all the special things Dad did for you over the years. He took you fishing. He was the one to hoist you up on his shoulders so you could get a better view at the zoo. He was the one to let you win at  HORSE — just barely! — until he knew you could win fair and square. He shared his love for a particular sports team. He shared his love for a particular swear word when that particular sports team performed particularly poorly. He taught you to drive. He taught you another swear word when you drove the car into the mailbox.

In other words, what’s not to celebrate about Dad? (OK, there is that whole ‟pull my finger” routine.) And you know all that fathering works up an appetite. With the new year officially rung in, many of us are looking to trade in vice for virtue by adopting healthier habits. If you’re among those looking to clean up their act, fear not. You don’t have to relegate yourself to 365 days of kale, quinoa and lemon water. As it turns out, Grub Burger Bar has a lighter — and still delicious — side.

Case in point: The Hippie Chickpea, a meat-free burger made with ground chickpeas and eggplant topped with roasted red pepper mayo, roasted red bell peppers, arugula, red onions, goat cheese and tabbouleh and served on a wheat bun.

Or check out the Wild-Caught Salmon, a burger made from hand-chopped wild-caught salmon and ancho chilis, complemented with the flavors of avocado, tequila lime aioli, fresh cilantro and our Black Bean & Charred Corn Medley and served on a white bun.

Then there’s the Jive Turkey, featuring ground and pest-seasoned turkey and topped with bacon, Swiss cheese, sprouts, avocado and chipotle aioli, all on a wheat bun.

Market Menu Spotlight: Brezel & Wurst Sandwich and Sandlot Shake

Summer is finally in full swing, and with it comes new opportunities for fun in the sun as well as nostalgia for years past. But you don’t have to warble about those “summer niiiiiiiii-iiiiiiiights.” Grub has you covered with a couple of tasty new market menu items that are guaranteed to stir up some of those wonderful memories… and maybe help you make some new ones to look back on later.

But you’ll want to get here fast — these items are available only for a limited time in July & August.

Our new Brezel & Wurst is a German-inspired pretzel and sausage sandwich. You get a house-made sausage topped with peppers, onions, provolone and Dijonaise served on a made-from-scratch salted pretzel bun. Relive that summer studying abroad, or just enjoy the Old World flavors of this tasty ‘wich. Danke and bitte, right?

Next up, we’re bringing back our Sandlot shake and lighting it on fire. School’s out for summer, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to forget your 1, 2, 3s and A, B, Cs. Just for fun, here’s a look at Grub Burger Bar from A to Z. Consider it our little summer school lesson.

 

Alcoholic Shakes. You read that right. You can try any of our delicious, handcrafted shakes with a boozy kick.

 

Bacon Love #9. The classic bacon burger gets a little something extra courtesy of our secret sauce #9. No, we won’t tell you what’s in it. We won’t even hint.

Waffle Cut Sweet Potato Fries. Magically delicious, they’re known around Grub simply as “Sweets.”

 

XX Lager, served on draught. (You thought we’d drop the ball on the letter X, didn’t you?)

 

You’re My Boy Blue. This burger comes topped with crumbled bleu cheese, balsamic caramelized onions, tomato and arugula.

 

Zippy. Some like it hot, and we’re happy to bring the heat with our spicy Scorpion burger. For an extra kick, try it Inferno Style with our Scorpion sauce made with dried scorpion chiles that we grind in-house. Complete with an ice cream chaser. Trust us, you’re gonna need it.

Our Favorite Foolproof Menu Pairings

Some things just go together. Sand and surf. Needle and thread. Vim and vigor. And, yes, burgers and fries.

While each of our menu items was crafted to stand on its own two feet, we can’t help but feel they’re simply better with a sidekick. Here are just a few of our favorite menu pairings.

Brussels Sprouts and Sangria. If you’ve hated brussels sprouts since you were a kid, it’s time to give them another go. We roast ours and toss them in ancho lime vinaigrette, then top them off with queso fresco for a deliciously Southwestern take. Pair this flavorful app with our seasonal housemade sangria.

Thai Noodle Salad and a Blue Moon. This is no weak plate of lettuce. The combination of rice noodles, mango, tomato, avocado, cilantro, peanuts, lettuce and sweet chile vinaigrette with your choice of Ahi tuna or grilled chicken packs a punch, but it plays nicely with the smooth, creamy finish of this Belgian-style wheat beer.

Bacon Love #9 with fries and a Rebel IPA. This is the ultimate combo for those who believe in going big or going home. We take our juicy signature blend of 100% fresh ground beef — and top it with applewood-smoked bacon, American, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes and our secret sauce #9. It’s a lot to take on, but the big citrus and grapefruit flavors of the refreshing Rebel IPA brew stand up to the challenge.

Texas Luau and a Patron Mango Rita. This burger — which is topped with braised pulled pork and served with a grilled pineapple slice, grilled jalapeños and teriyaki and BBQ sauces — is a ray of sunshine on a bun. And when paired with our Patron Mango Rita, it’s truly a thing of beauty.

Harlem Chicken Tenders and a Smoke and Mirrors. The recipe for our hand-cut, double-battered chicken tenders is inspired by a recipe originating in Harlem, NY. We serve them with skinny fries and strongly suggest trying them with our Smoke and Mirrors, a smoky but delicate cocktail made with bourbon and a hint of orange habanero shrub.
